Make your move easier
Annapolis Area Moving Tips
Let’s face it — moving is no picnic. Whether you’re moving across town or across the country, a little preparation can go a long way. Use this checklist to help make your move to the Annapolis area as smooth and stress-free as possible.
- Before You MoveDon't wait until the last minute! Start packing and planning as soon as possible to alleviate some of the stress.
- Handy Packing TipsIt's not just the packing that's overwhelming—moving day itself can be very stressful if you're not prepared. Here are some tips for a low-stress moving day.
- On Moving Day
- After You Move

Organize and declutter
Start one room at a time and sort items to donate, sell, or discard. The less you have to pack, the easier your move will be. Please reach out to us for our list of organizations that accept donations.

Lighten the load
Host a yard sale or donate gently used clothing, furniture, and décor items. We have a well vetted list of places to donate various items (from books, to furniture, to clothes, to household goods and décor – if we can help you keep things out of the landfill and in the hands of someone who would appreciate them, that is a win for everyone).

Change your address
Submit your change-of-address request at least two weeks before your move to ensure mail forwarding is in place.

Reinforce
Use sturdy boxes and plenty of packing material for fragile items.

Innovate
Pack dishes and glassware vertically, and use socks to cushion stemware.

Pack small
Heavier items are easier (and safer) to move in smaller boxes.

Prevent leaks
Cover toiletries with plastic wrap before replacing caps, and wrap drawers or furniture to prevent spills or scratches.

Prepare
Pack an “open me first” box with essentials like toiletries, paper towels, tools, chargers, and paper plates.

Label, label, label!
Clearly label boxes by room — color-coding can make unpacking even easier.

Keep important information with you
Do not pack essentials such as identification, medications, financial documents, medical records, or valuables.

Pack an overnight bag
Have clothes, toiletries, and chargers ready in case you arrive before the moving truck.

Have phone numbers handy
Keep your mover’s contact information and shipment details easily accessible.

Clean first
If possible, clean bathrooms and kitchens before unpacking furniture and boxes.

Unpack by room
Break unpacking into manageable steps by tackling one room at a time.

Enjoy your new home!
Don’t forget to pause and smile — your new chapter has begun. Welcome home.
